WEEK 45
For some, summer is a slow beat of hot, hazy days broken up by the well-planned pursuit of new vistas or cooler climes. For our family, at least, summer is a whirlwind. As the busiest season for both my husband and myself, neither of us can think more than a few days in advance and most days are a blur until we’re sprawled on the porch with a sweating NA beer in hand.
That said, I’ve been yearning for a creative outlet. And, armed with the encouragement of friends (and a frightening backlog of screenshots) I’m dipping my toe back into the world of the WEEKLY…
LIGHT LAYERS // North Florida’s infamously oppressive heat demands light layers. Actually, it demands swimsuits, but apparently that’s not appropriate for the office (especially if that “office” is a job site as mine so often is these days). So, I’m opting for things like DÔEN’s NESSIE DRESS, J.Crew MONTAUCK TEXTURED SWEATER TEE, or J.Crew’s POINTELLE SHORTS. Mostly, however, I’m retiring into the GENEVIEVE WHITE COTTON NIGHTGOWN (or similar) by 4:30PM so these PEARL EARRINGS aren’t in the rotation even if they’re in my shopping cart.
SUMMER WHITES // I’m collaborating with CC.BOONE to renovate her newly purchased coastal cottage in Sunnyside (10 minutes east of 30A). It’s been a study in restoring the charm that previous owners — in their relentless pursuit of open floor plan living and the color aqua — DIY’d away. Now, v-groove, cased openings, white-washed floors, and outdoor living reign. We’re sourcing lighting like WINDSOR SCONCES and MARTA MINI LAMP; books like BEAUTIFUL SHELLS: GEORGE PERRY’S CONCHOLOGY; accessories including a LOTHANTIQUE LOTION, a WHITE RIDGED FRAME, a COTTON ROPE DOOR STOP, and a natural fiber THROW PILLOW; art like “EXAMINATION OF THE ROSE” by TYLER GUINN; and vintage finds like this incredible pair of RATTAN TUB CHAIRS.
COASTAL ENTERTAINING // Though this summer is a whirlwind, we’re trying to stay connected to friends and family through hosting. We prefer smaller gatherings, so having friends over for dinner is our preferred way of socializing. We also like to cook and it’s a great way to get rid of all the sourdough I’ve been making ever since MOTHER & CRUMB put me in a sourdough chokehold. And while we’re certainly not hosting the kind of dinners that would necessitate a napkin ring like these SHELL NAPKIN RINGS, we are elevating it a bit with SABRE SPREADERS.
Please note I may earn commission when you shop certain links, though I also encourage you to let them know in the checkout or notes section that the WEEKLY sent you! Thank you for supporting my small business!
